Common questions

The things families ask us most. If your question is not here, just ask — we would rather tell you honestly than have you guess.

  • What is the difference between SIL and SDA?

SDA is the housing — a purpose-built, accessible dwelling funded by the NDIS. SIL is the support you receive while living there. They are funded separately in your plan, and you can have one without the other.

  • Do I need funding in my plan to move in?

Usually yes. SIL or SDA funding needs to be in your NDIS plan before you move in. If you are not sure what is in your plan, we can look at it with you and your support coordinator before you commit to anything.

  • Can I visit before I decide?

Yes, and we would encourage it. You are welcome to visit a home, meet the team and bring family, friends or your support coordinator with you. Take as long as you need to decide.

  • Is there a nurse at the home?

Not permanently. We employ a nurse on a casual basis and arrange nursing around what participants need, rather than having one on site at all times. Nanak Care is registered with the NDIS for high-intensity supports, so if your plan calls for clinical care or supervised medication assistance, talk to us about what can be put in place.
